Servants With a Heart, a local humanitarian food-aid and service organization, recently traveled with local groups to deliver food, packed in North Carolina, to the hungry and needy in Nicaragua.
“It was an extraordinary experience to see the students from the Charlotte Christian School, cooking and serving food, packed last April, in Nicaragua.” said Servants With a Heart co-founder Suzanne Yoh. Boxes from packing events at Lucia Baptist Church (Stanley, NC), Elevation Church (Charlotte, NC), and Harrison United Methodist Church (Pineville, NC) were also delivered by members of Lucia and Elevation.
“Packing Servants With a Heart’s two millionth meal box at our church, and then seeing it at a feeding program in Nicaragua, was a thrill. I hope more people are able to share this wonderful opportunity,” said Lucia Baptist member Jodi Foxx.
Elevation member David Hair stated, “Love Week was awesome, but seeing the food reach these kids in Nicaragua is even better!”
Since 2011, over 19,000 volunteer shifts and 3.1 mission meals have been packed by Servants With a Heart volunteers. Traveling to visit Samaritans International of Nicaragua, partner of Servants With a Heart, enables volunteers to see their work and dedication positively impact the locals in need.
Meals provided to the Nicaraguans are made from four readily available dry ingredients: white long-grain rice, crushed soy, a dehydrated blend of six vegetables, and chicken-flavored vegetarian vitamin & mineral powder. The meals are easy to package, keep for long periods, and require only boiling with water to prepare. The meals offer all nine of the essential amino acids required for complete nutrition. Packed meals will be distributed to impoverished families both globally and domestically at local food banks.
